Beyond the translation

Song interpretation

‘Feel My Love’ from Kutty (2010) is a celebrated ode to selfless, unrequited love. The protagonist expresses a love that demands nothing in return—not acceptance, reciprocation, or even permission. He embraces every reaction from his beloved, whether she tears his letters, closes her windows on him, or scolds him, finding joy simply in the reality of his own feelings and asking only that she senses the depth of his devotion. Using striking imagery such as parallel railway tracks that travel together without intersecting, and stars that shine unconditionally, the song depicts love as an autonomous, noble emotion. It portrays a non-possessive state of mind where loving someone is an independent journey and a reward in itself.

Writing craft

Poetic devices

Muran (Antithesis)

En kaadhal sariyo thavaro en kaadhal mullo malaro

Uses directly opposing Tamil terms in pair: 'sari' (right) vs 'thavaru' (wrong), and 'mullu' (thorn) vs 'malar' (flower) to emphasize unconditional love in all circumstances.

Simile (Uvamai Ani)

Thandavaalam polae thodarven anbae feel my love

Compares his lifelong journey alongside her to parallel railway tracks ('thandavaalam polae') that run together side by side without needing to merge.

Simile (Uvamai Ani)

Panirandu mani mullai polae sera aasai illai

Compares lovers meeting to the hands of a clock overlapping at 12 o'clock ('panirandu mani mullai polae').

Rhetorical Question

Yaar kannai paarka vendum vinmeenthaan solluma

Uses rhetorical questioning comparing his unprompted love to a star that shines without asking whose eyes are watching.

Trivia

'Feel My Love' is the Tamil rendition of the famous Telugu track of the same name composed by Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) for the film Arya (2004). Kutty (2010) is the official Tamil remake of Arya, starring Dhanush and Shriya Saran. The song was rendered in Tamil by the late playback singer KK, and DSP retained his iconic original composition, making it a huge musical hit across both languages.
