Beyond the translation

Song interpretation

Vedala Pulla Naesathukku is a traditional Tamil folk romance song from the film Periya Marudhu (1994). The heroine expresses her deep affection, romantic longing, and impatience to marry her beloved Marudhu. She asks the cool breeze blowing from Azhagar Hill to act as a messenger and deliver her heart's yearning to her man. She highlights metaphors of rural life, such as birds conversing in groves and blooming jasmine, symbolising her readiness for marriage.
