பனி படர்ந்த மலையின் மேலே

படுத்திருந்தேன் சிலையைப் போலே

கனி தொடுத்த மாலை போலே

கன்னி வந்தாள் கண் முன்னாலே

Atop the snow-covered mountain,

I was lying like a statue.

Like a mountain laden with fruits,

A maiden appeared before my eyes.

குனிந்து நின்ற முகத்தைப் பார்த்தேன்

குங்குமப் பூ நிறத்தைப் பார்த்தேன்

கனிந்து நின்ற கன்னம் பார்த்தேன்

கண்ணீரின் சின்னம் பார்த்தேன்

I looked at her bowed head,

I looked at her saffron-hued complexion.

I looked at her ripe cheeks,

I saw the traces of tears.

காரணத்தைச் சொன்னால்

காளை நான் உதவி செய்வேன்

வாரணங்கள் பூட்டி வந்து

வண்ணத் தேர் ஓட்டி வந்து

தோரணங்கள் ஆடுகின்ற

தூய நகர் வீதியிலே

ஊர்வலமாய் உன்னை

உடனழைத்து நான் வருவேன்

சொல்லம்மா சொல்லென்றேன்

தூயமகள் தலை நிமிர்ந்தாள்

If you tell me the reason,

I, the artist, will offer my help.

Bringing along processional elephants,

Driving a colorful chariot,

In the pure city streets

Where decorative festoons sway,

As a grand procession,

I will come and accompany you.

"Tell me, mother, tell me," I said.

The pure daughter raised her head.

உண்டு பசியாற

உலகம் வரட்டுமென்று

கண்டு தேன் கதலி

கறந்த பால் கரந்தபடி

கொண்டு வந்து வைத்து

கூப்பிட்டேன் வருகவென்று

So that the entire world could come

And eat to satisfy its hunger.

Finding honey like a beloved,

Freshly drawing milk as it was milked,

I brought it and placed it before them,

Inviting everyone to come and eat...

யாரை அழித்தேன்

யார் குடியை நான் கெடுத்தேன்

சீர் சுமந்து சென்றதுதான்

செய்ததொரு பாவமென்றால்

அன்னை உரைத்த மொழி

அத்தனையும் கேட்டிருந்தேன்

பின்னர் மனதில்

பெருந்துணிவு மோதி வர......

Whom did I destroy?

Whose family did I ruin?

Is bearing prosperity and giving it to others

Considered a sin that I committed?

All those words spoken by Mother India,

I sat and listened to them all.

Then in my heart,

A great courage came surging forth,

வீரமுண்டு தோள்கள் உண்டு

வெற்றி கொள்ளும் ஞானம் உண்டு

சாரம் மிக்க தர்மம் உண்டு

தர்மம் மிக்க தலைவன் உண்டு

There is valor, there are strong shoulders,

There is victory-winning wisdom,

There is righteousness filled with essence,

There is a leader filled with dharma.

அன்னை சிரித்தாள்

அடடா.....ஓ.......அச்சிரிப்பில்

முன்னைத் தமிழ் மனமே

முளைத்தெழுந்து நின்றதம்மா

என்னை மறந்தேன்

இரவுலகில் சேர்ந்து விட்டேன்

கண்ணை மெல்ல மறைத்து

கற்பனையில் கலந்து விட்டேன்

கற்பனையில் கலந்து விட்டேன்.........

Mother smiled,

Ah, in that smile of hers,

The ancient Tamil pride and spirit

Sprang forth and stood tall, oh mother!

I forgot myself,

I joined the realm of the night.
