Beyond the translation

Song interpretation

The song is an intense and sensual expression of physical and emotional unity between two lovers. It glorifies human passion as a natural, divine phenomenon designed by Brahma, contrasting natural human desires with artificial social norms like clothing. The lovers view their intimate connection as a sacred ritual ('Kaama deva yaagam') and a spiritual destiny earned from past lives ('poorva jenma yogam'). In the later verses, the lyrics describe an intoxicating state of complete surrender where time, hunger, and thirst cease to exist, comparing their physical bond to the timeless stone sculptures of Khajuraho. It celebrates unconditional freedom and passion, viewing romance as an absolute form of personal liberation.

Trivia

This track is originally a classic vintage track composed by Ilaiyaraaja with lyrics by Pulamaipithan for the 1979 film 'Pagalil Oru Iravu'. In the 2014 action-thriller 'Arima Nambi', famous percussionist Drums Sivamani recreated/re-imagined this song as part of his debut film score.
