As oracle dancers gather in trance,
and people gather to witness the welcoming ritual (Ethir Sevai),
upon a flower palanquin, Kallazhagar
gave a blissful vision, oh people!
For the wedding of Chokkanathar and Meenakshi,
arriving a little late,
Kallazhagar arrived and stood,
only to find the wedding was already over, oh people!
And because of that, Kallazhagar
turned back in anger!
Heading straight to the home of Nachiyar,
he departed in haste!
He who rode away on a horse
returned on Garuda, the sacred eagle!
To the sage cursed with crane-poison (Manduka),
he granted divine salvation!
In the month of Chithirai,
hearing the news of Kallazhagar's wrath,
the royal sword-bearers
carried the sacred palanquin on their shoulders, oh people!
At various festival halls,
taking on ten different divine forms,
in front of the eyes of all devotees,
he appeared everyday with grace, oh people!
Folk dances and music concerts
went on all through the night till dawn!
In the heart of Kallazhagar,
joy was born anew!
Prostrating flat on the ground, the Saurashtra community
and all the devotees bowed down!
The kings of Sethupathi and Pudukkottai,
all the royal rulers bowed in devotion!
Having no coins to buy buttermilk,
he broke open the temple donation box, oh people!
From that day, as the stealthy one (Kallar),
Azhagar was fondly called!
At Tallakulam and Vandiyur,
and all through the settlements,
with cracker blasts shaking the skies,
Azhagar danced forward with majestic valor!
With green flags and white silk robes,
Azhagar's grand procession moved along!
At Angan Tirupati,
cockfights and bullfights were a thrilling spectacle!
Performing wondrous playful deeds,
he stepped and waded into the Vaigai river!
Observing three months of ritual seclusion,
he rested upon the eighteen steps!
