Song interpretation
Panjaangam Paarkkaathae is a playful romantic duet from the film Thavasi (2001), composed by Vidyasagar and written by Kabilan. The heroine playfully entreats her lover not to wait for auspicious dates in the astrological calendar (Panjaangam) to begin their intimate marital life, using the traditional housewarming ritual ('Paal Kaachum') as an allegory. She imaginatively compares her heart to a house where she wishes to lock him up, keeping the key close to her body. The song is rich in colorful visual imagery, describing romance through metaphors of night carnivals, spinning wheels, chariots, and gentle earthquakes. In response, the hero embraces her devotion, agreeing that love itself makes every moment auspicious and promising to tend to the loving home she has created in her heart.
