காண்பதற்கு ஏழை

Looks like a poor man to behold,
While a foolish coward in between
Creates evil plots and deceives people!

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This song is a classic fortune-telling (Kuri Solludhal) song performed in traditional folk style in the movie Madurai Veeran (1956). A gypsy fortune-teller invokes tribal deities such as Lord Murugan (Kumara Vadivelan of Kolli Hills) and Goddess Jakkamma (venerated by the Kambalam community) to divine the future of a princess. The fortune-teller reveals secrets about a brave hero who rescued the princess in a moment of grave danger and predicts that despite current obstacles created by a coward, great fortune and union await her.
Writing craft
Poetic devices
Mogana Yugam / Monai (Initial Rhyme / Alliteration)
“Kundru thoraadi varum / Kumara vadivelan”

Edhugai (Second-letter Rhyme)
“Anil vizhum kanniyilae / Aanai vizha pogudhammaa”
Matching second letter 'n' in 'Anilukku' and 'Aanai' or 'Sittu' and 'Singam', creating melodic continuity.
Metaphor / Allegory
“Anil vizhum kanniyilae / Aanai vizha pogudhammaa”
Using metaphors of catching an elephant in a squirrel's trap and a lion in a sparrow's trap to foretell a grand hero falling in love with a noble heroine.
