Beyond the translation

Song interpretation

The song portrays a lover caught in a vortex of intense passion, surrender, and emotional turbulence. In the initial verses, the protagonist describes how his lover's gentle touch ignited his inner flame during a cold Margazhi night, causing him to lose himself in her smile, hair, and breath. The subsequent lines capture the poignant anguish of separation and love's mystery, questioning why she brought warmth, dreams, and hope into his life only to leave him feeling soul-less and longing.

Repeated use of 'Edharkaaga' (Why/For what reason) at the start of alternate rhetorical questions to highlight anguish.

Matching second consonants across lines, such as 'Idhazhin' and 'Aval', or 'Ennai' and 'Thiri'.

Trivia

Composed by Srikanth Deva for the 2004 Silambarasan (Simbu) and Ramya starrer 'Kuththu', this track stands out as a melodious, poetic break from the album's predominantly high-energy folk and gaana numbers. Lyricist Thamarai brings her trademark classical imagery and emotional depth to the song.
