Aadi vanthaen aadi vanthaen
Anju kodaikaari
Paadi vanthaen paadi vanthaen
Paandiyanaar devi
Thaedi vanthaen thaedi vanthaen
Thaen vadikkum poova
Naan irukkum kovilukku
Naalum adhu theva
Naan paambu ena venbu ena

I came dancing, I came dancing,
the goddess of the five umbrellas!
I came singing, I came singing,
the divine queen of the Pandyan land!
I came searching, I came searching,
is it a flower dripping with sweet honey?
For the temple where I dwell,
it is needed every single day.
Whether taking the form of a snake or neem,
I am one whose nature is to transform.
In the presence of this Mother Mari,
justice will never waver.
The whole town knows it, the whole world knows it;
just ask around and see for yourself.
Deceitful tricks will not work with me, woman,
for I myself am the ultimate illusion!
In Thottiyam, in beautiful Thillai (Chidambaram),
and in Uraiyur of Tiruchirappalli city,
making my sacred home as Kali,
I am the Goddess seated in royal majesty!
In Bannari, in Samayapuram,
and in Thanjavur where rich crops flourish,
taking on the sacred name of Mari,
I am the Mother who guards the people!
Will not the entire universe spin
right inside my firm grip, girl?
Will not wondrous miracles happen
in a single heartbeat if I only wish?
Holding the sacred discus and the conch in his hands,
I am the sister of that Lord Govindaraja!
Upon his matted locks, he carries the river Ganga—
I am the all-powerful lady of that benevolent Lord!
I came dancing!
I came dancing, I came dancing,
the goddess of the five umbrellas!
I came searching, I came searching,
is it a flower dripping with sweet honey?
For the temple where I dwell,
it is needed every single day.
When the thunderous beats of the pambai (sacred drum) echo,
whirling and dancing like a spinning top,
having stepped forth to wash away every sin,
look at me, woman, I am fierce Bhairavi!
To the devoted women who wear skirts of neem leaves,
blessing them and gifting them a prosperous life,
who else is there in this wide world
to make them thrive, besides me?
Just because I appear as a carved black-stone statue,
do not think of me as weak or ordinary!
Without offering what is rightfully owed,
if you try to hide it, things will never go your way!
Listen to me, O woman, listen!
I am telling you words of pure wisdom:
tell me, what force exists on this earth
that can ever surpass this Shakti (divine power)?
I came dancing!
I came dancing, I came dancing,
the goddess of the five umbrellas!
I came searching, I came searching,
is it a flower dripping with sweet honey?
For the temple where I dwell,
it is needed every single day.
Whether taking the form of a snake or neem,
I am one whose nature is to transform.
In the presence of this Mother Mari,
justice will never waver.
The whole town knows it, the whole world knows it;
just ask around and see for yourself.
Deceitful tricks will not work with me, woman,
for I myself am the ultimate illusion!
