Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This song captures a playful and romantic scene from the mythological story of Lord Murugan and Valli in the film Srivalli (1961). Lord Murugan, disguised as a hunter, approaches Valli while she is guarding the millet fields ('tinai punam') and driving away birds using a sling ('kavan'). He calls out to various birds like crows and quails, using the opportunity to praise Valli's beauty, comparing her to a picture-perfect cuckoo and a dancing peacock.
