Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
Written by the revolutionary Tamil poet Puratchi Kavignar Bharathidasan, this song is a powerful critique of socio-economic inequality and capitalist exploitation. The lyrics argue that all human beings are born equal under nature, yet society forces the majority into severe poverty while a privileged few hoard wealth and resources. Bharathidasan points out the tragic irony that working-class laborers create every tangible structures and goods in society, yet are rewarded only with hunger and poverty. The song strongly questions the moral foundation of a world where many toil tirelessly just to sustain the luxury of a few. Expressing intense revolutionary fervor, the poet declares that a world built on such systemic injustice deserves to lose its existence entirely if equality and fair distribution of the earth's abundant resources cannot be achieved.
