Everything seen yesterday

Without the companionship of the maiden
Without reciting poetry through eyes
Without frolicking upon the soft bed
Can the honeymoon longing ever be quenched?
Without the companionship of the maiden
Without reciting poetry through eyes
Without frolicking upon the soft bed
Can the honeymoon longing ever be quenched?
Youth has blossomed so beautifully
Like a bouquet of flowers in your hands
Everything seen yesterday
Must be seen today as well
Everything seen today
Must be seen forevermore
Everything seen yesterday
Must be seen today as well
He placed joy within womanhood
He gave you eyes to behold her
Yet He left you in solitude and departed
Is love's passion driving fast all day long?
He placed joy within womanhood
He gave you eyes to behold her
Yet He left you in solitude and departed
Is love's passion driving fast all day long?

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
'Naetru Paarthathellaam' is a romantic, intimate Tamil song that captures the tender longings and blissful continuity of love. The chorus sets a time-transcending refrain: the sweet moments experienced yesterday should be revisited today, and whatever joy is discovered today must be cherished forever. The lyrics celebrate the timeless dance of romance, comparing full-blown youth to a fresh bouquet of flowers held gently in a lover's hand. The song further muses on the playfulness of fate and divinity, noting how nature created feminine charm and gave lovers the eyes to admire it, yet often leaves them in solitary longing. Through poetic imagery of honeymoon romance, poetic glances, and hearts tossed around by new delight, the track portrays youth and love as an intense, unquenchable journey.

Poetic devices
Muran (Antithesis / Temporal Contrast)
“Naetru paarthathellaam / Indru paarka vendum ... Endrum paarkka vendum”
Panchu Arunachalam contrasts three time periods—Naetru (Yesterday), Indru (Today), and Endrum (Forever)—to emphasize the longing for everlasting love.
Iyaipu (End Rhyme)
“Paavaiyin sondham illaamal / Paarvaiyil kavidhai sollaamal / Panjanai meedhu thullaamal”
The lines end with the rhyming suffix '-aamal', creating a rhythmic flow and musical harmony in the stanza.
Monai (Initial Rhyme / Alliteration)
“Paavaiyin / Paarvaiyil / Panjanai”
The initial letter 'Pa' repeats across consecutive lines, providing structural elegance.
Metaphor (Uvaman)
“Pudhu sugam manadhai pandhaada”
The feeling of new romantic joy (Pudhu sugam) is metaphorically depicted as tossing or playing with the lover's mind like a ball (pandhaada).
