பாலோடு தேன் கலந்து நான் ஊட்ட வேண்டும்
பரம்பரையின் பேர் விளங்க
வழிக் காட்ட வேண்டும்
I want to bathe you gently like a delicate flower.
I want to adorn you with a bindi, apply kohl, and cherish you.

கல்வித் தேட வேண்டும்
Dressed neatly in a school uniform,
You must go to school.
Taking up books of pure Tamil,
You must seek wisdom and knowledge.

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
Murugaa Varuga Nalamae Tharuga is a deeply affectionate devotional song sung from the perspective of an elderly matriarch praying to Lord Murugan. Rather than seeking salvation or material wealth, she prays for Lord Murugan himself to be born into her family as her grandson. She expresses her maternal yearning (Vatsalya Bhava) to raise him tenderly, feed him delicacies, dress him for school, and watch him grow into an educated and virtuous scholar of pure Tamil.
