O King of Kings,
You must pay tribute to me.
For lifetime after lifetime,
You must remain bound to me.
Which country's queen did you think I was?
How did you perceive me?
Ruling over eight directions,
You glared at such a woman!
O King, oh King, come, come!
I am wealthy,
The blessed daughter of an anointed king.
You are arrogant,
The leader of the working-class people.
Dance around and gather a crowd,
Your arrogance will crumble and fade away.
Even Arjuna fears her,
My horoscope is that of Queen Alli.
Looking at me, any man,
Today or any day,
Looking at me, any man,
Must come, bow down,
And offer greetings before leaving.
O King of Kings,
You must pay tribute to me.
For lifetime after lifetime,
You must remain bound to me.
Which country's queen did you think I was?
How did you perceive me?

O King, oh King, come, come!

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
In this track from the movie Mannan, the wealthy and powerful female protagonist asserts her dominance over the male protagonist, a working-class leader. She demands submission and tribute from him, declaring her supreme status and comparing her fiery nature to Queen Alli, the mythical queen whom even the great warrior Arjuna feared. She warns him that his working-class pride and arrogance will crumble before her imperial authority.

Poetic devices
Mythological Allusion
“Arjunanthaan anjugindra / Alliraani en jaadhagam”
References Queen Alli from Tamil folklore, a fiercely independent queen whose strength intimidated even the Pandava prince Arjuna, symbolising dominant female authority.
Monaai (Initial Rhyme / Alliteration)
“Aattam podu koottam podu / Aadippogum un aanavam”
Repetition of the initial 'Aa' vowel sound in 'Aattam' and 'Aadippogum' creates a rhythmic cadence.
Metaphor
“Paattaali makkalin padaiththalaivan”
Refers to the male protagonist as the 'commander of working-class people' to contrast his labor roots with her royal wealth.
