தேவா தயை புரிய வா வா
எளியோனைக் காக்கவா
இருள் நீக்கும் ஜீவா எனையாள நீ ஓடி வா
தேவா தயை புரிய வா வா
O Lord, come to show mercy, come come
Come to protect this humble soul
O living light who removes darkness, run to rule over me
O Lord, come to show mercy, come come
ஏழைக் குறையை கேளாமலே இன்னும்
பாராமுகம் ஏனோ
பாலைவனம் போல் என் வாழ்வின் ஜோதி
நிலை மாறி சிலையாகும் நிலையானதே..
Without even listening to the grievances of this poor soul, still
Why this indifference?
Like a desert, the light of my life
Has changed its state and permanently turned to stone
தேவா தயை புரிய வா வா

இருள் நீக்கும் ஜீவா எனையாள நீ ஓடி வா
தேவா தயை புரிய வா வா
O Lord, come to show mercy, come come
Come to protect this humble soul

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This song is a deeply emotional and fervent devotional prayer addressed to Lord Shiva (Sambhasiva), pleading for His swift intervention and grace. The singer laments her tragic plight, comparing her once-luminous life to a barren desert that has turned into motionless stone. She questions the Lord's perceived indifference to her suffering while extolling His cosmic powers and compassionate acts, such as drinking the lethal Aalakaalam poison to save the universe and conquering death itself. The second half of the composition builds into a high-energy rhythmic chant praising Shiva's various names and epithets. Describing herself as a helpless orphan with no other refuge, the singer desperately surrenders to the Lord, imploring Him to arrive immediately and relieve her overwhelming distress.

Poetic devices
Simile (Upamai)
“Paalaivanam pol en vaazhvin jothi”
Compares the desolate and dried-up state of the protagonist's life to a desert using the comparative word 'pol'.
Rhyme / End Rhyme (Iyaibu)
“Thaandava naadha aandarul naadha”
Repetition of the suffix 'naadha' at the end of adjacent phrases creates rhythmic harmony.
Metaphor (Uruvagam)
“Irul neekkum jeeva enaiyaala nee odi vaa”
Describes the Lord as the light or life force capable of eradicating the darkness of misery.
Alliteration (Moonaai / Etukai)
“Allaltheertha naesa”
Matching phonetic sounds in the beginning of words ('Allaltheertha', 'Anbin', 'Aadhaaram') enhances the devotional cadence.
