டயலாக் ...........
[Dialogue]
Who are you, deceitful woman?
Coming in this dense dark night,
When great calamity strikes,
You came to cremate a corpse.
Tell me the whole truth,
I will not let you leave without speaking.
Look, with a red-hot iron rod,
I will mutilate you as you squirm and then leave.

நான் தொல்லுலகில் பறையனானேனே...
To those who asked for silver coins,
With hands that gave endlessly,
To those who asked for silver coins,
With hands that gave endlessly,
I have been reduced to collecting cremation fees;
In this ancient world, I became an outcast.

இன்று நான் பறையனானேனே...
In the justice of true philosophy,
There is no caste and no discrimination.

In this world, in vain due to your harsh fate,
In this world, in vain due to your harsh fate,
Today I have become an outcast.

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This song belongs to the legendary tale of King Harichandra, renowned for his absolute devotion to truth. Having surrendered his kingdom, wealth, and status to honor his promise to Sage Vishwamitra, Harichandra is forced to work as a caretaker at a cremation ground. In the first section, he confronts his wife Chandramathi, who has arrived late at night to cremate their deceased son, without recognizing her initially and demanding the mandatory tax for burning the corpse. In the second section, Harichandra laments his tragic downfall, expressing how he was once a noble king who gave away silver coins without hesitation, but is now forced to collect burial coins as an outcast in the eyes of society.
