Will it never come, will it not bring joy?
The day I behold you in my life?
The day I behold you in my life?
Will it never come, will it not bring joy?
Plucking the veena of my mind,
Singing and showcasing a sweet melody,
Plucking the veena of my mind,
Singing and showcasing a sweet melody,
Your face that brings radiant happiness,
My eyes yearn without seeing it,
My eyes yearn without seeing it!
Will it never come, will it not bring joy?
The day I behold you in my life?
The day I behold you in my life?
Have I forgotten you for even a moment?
Are you not the very embodiment of grace?
Have I forgotten you for even a moment?
Are you not the very embodiment of grace?
Is it fair to separate me from my beloved?
My eyes yearn without seeing it,
My eyes yearn without seeing it!
Will it never come, will it not bring joy?
The day I behold you in my life?
The day I behold you in my life?
Is my entire life destined to be full of sorrow?
Are all the desires of this maiden in vain?
Is my entire life destined to be full of sorrow?
Are all the desires of this maiden in vain?
Is the life of love merely a dream?
My eyes yearn without seeing it,
My eyes yearn without seeing it!

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
Varave varaathaa is a poignant lamentation of a woman yearning to reunite with her beloved. She wonders if the joyous day when she will see him again will ever dawn in her life. Comparing her mind to a veena that plays sweet tunes of love, she laments that her eyes are suffering in pain because she cannot see his blissful face. She questions fate and the lord of grace, asking whether her entire life is destined to be spent in sorrow and if her sweet dreams of love are in vain.
