It was conceived as a historical epic based on the Maruthu Pandiyar brothers of Sivagangai, competing directly with the contemporary release of Veerapandiya Kattabomman. The soundtrack was composed by the duo Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy and features rich Tamil classical poetry.
