Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
Is it fair for you to reject me, your devotee?
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
The radiant glow of your eyes is my very life force,
And your gentle smile is my soul's existence.
Performing penance and chanting your name,
I have cried and grown utterly exhausted.
Will you now show grace and relieve my suffering?
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
The sound of your beautiful anklets is the sacred cosmic sound,
The rustle of your bangles is a sweet song,
Your graceful side-glance is the source of my passion,
With compassion, please relieve the sorrow in this humble heart.
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
Will you not accept my worship, O Goddess?
The moments spent without you have turned into whole eras,
Being close yet remaining silent has become a silent penance,
Seeking a blessing, I have trapped myself in this prison,
Come to reveal the world of liberation born of ripe love!

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This song is a soul-stirring, romantic-devotional plea in which the protagonist addresses his beloved as a divine Goddess ('Devi'). He surrenders himself completely to her, describing how her gaze gives him life, her smile sustains his soul, and the rhythmic sound of her ornaments sounds like holy chants and sweet melodies. Feeling agonizingly separated from her despite being physically close, he laments that every moment away from her feels like a passing epoch. He pleads for her mercy and acceptance, asking her to break his emotional agony and grant him the ultimate bliss of mutual love.
Writing craft
Poetic devices
Metaphor (Uruvagaim)
“Un azhagiya sathangaigalae pranava nadhamum”
The sound of the beloved's anklets is directly metaphorized as 'Pranava Nadham' (the primordial cosmic sound, Om).
Hyperbole (Uyarvu Navitchi Ani)
“Neeyum illa nimishangalaeyugam aanadhae”
Exaggeration used to convey deep longing, stating that mere minutes spent without her feel like entire yugas (eras).
Monai (Initial Alliteration)
“Neeyum illa nimishangalaeyugam aanadhae / Nerungirundhaepesidatha yogamaanadhae”
The initial 'N' sound ('Neeyum', 'Nerungirundhae') creates a rhythmic melodic flow across adjacent couplets.
Iyaipu (End Rhyme)
“pranava nadhamum / madhura geethamum / enadhu moghamum”
Rhyming line endings ending with '-amum' ('nadhamum', 'geethamum', 'moghamum') establish lyrical harmony.
