Oh Tamil Kumara, what is this?
Have you forgotten me?
Oh Tamil Kumara, what is this?
Have you forgotten me?
If seeing you was a lie,
If your arrival was a lie,
If my seeing you was a lie,
If your arrival was a lie,
What is the price of devotion?
Oh Kumara, what is the value of devotion?
Oh Tamil Kumara, what is this?
Have you forgotten me?
Where did the two wings of your riding peacock
Fly away to, oh beautiful one?
While the one who constantly thought of you yearns and despairs,
Is this proper/becoming of you today?
Oh Tamil Kumara, what is this?
Have you forgotten me?
When Goddess Valli called upon you,
Weren't you the one who came?
Trusting you without any deceit,
Wasn't I the one who came to you?
When Goddess Valli called upon you,
Weren't you the one who came?
Trusting you without any deceit,
Wasn't I the one who came to you?
Run and come, Oh Velava, so that the whole town beholds you!
Run and come, Oh Velava, so that the whole town beholds you!
Oh Tamil Kumara, what is this?
Have you forgotten me?
Praise be to Lord Skanda, Om I take refuge in you!
Praise be to Muruga, the lotus flower of Saravana lake!
Praise be to Vela, the King of the six sacred abodes!
Come at least once, praise be to Kumara!
On that day, when Arunagirinathar
Kept his absolute faith in you,
Didn't you manifest for him?
Today, why do you test your own son?
What kind of trait is this; isn't this deception?
Isn't this an act of betraying my faith?
I am crying out and trembling in anxiety,
Will my devotion turn out to be false?
Will your divine power turn out to be false?
Welcome, oh Spear and Peacock, come!
Hari Om Muruga, welcome, come!
Come so that this whole earth knows your glory!
Either you come to me, or if you do not,
I shall come to you, I shall come to you!

Beyond the translation
Song interpretation
This powerful devotional song features a desperate and passionate plea by a devotee to Lord Murugan (Tamil Kumaran). Expressed through the traditional literary style of 'Ninda Stuti' (reproaching God out of intense love and intimacy), the singer lovingly chides Murugan for ignoring his prayers and tests of faith, asking if the divine grace he experienced earlier was merely an illusion.

Poetic devices
Ninda Stuti (Poetic Reproach)

Iyaipu (End Rhyme)
“Kandha nama om saranam potri / Murugaa saravana malarae potri”
The repeating end word 'potri' creates a rhythmic and melodic rhyming cadence at the end of consecutive lines.
