Song interpretation
This playful song from the classic mythological epic 'Mayabazar' (1957) features young maidens joyfully dancing and spinning like tops while teasingly telling the fortune of Princess Vatsala (Sasirekha). The maidens sing in harmony, likening themselves and Vatsala to singing cuckoos and dancing peacocks. Through playful astrology and teasing riddles, the maidens describe Vatsala's deep love for her cousin Abhimanyu. They portray him as a handsome, bow-wielding prince comparable to Manmatha (Cupid), shooting flower-arrows that make her wilt with love as she longs to wear the wedding garland.
