சொக்கி நிக்கும் மீனாட்சி நான்

கந்தனுக்கு வாக்கப்பட

சொந்தமுள்ள தெய்வானை நான்

எண்ணித்தான் ஏத்தி வச்சேன் தீபம்

எப்பத்தான் கையில் வந்து சேரும்

Desiring Lord Sokkanathan (Shiva),

I am Meenakshi, standing spellbound.

To be wedded to Murugan (Kandhan),

I am Deivanai, who holds the rightful claim.

I lit the lamp with hopeful prayers,

When will our hands finally join as one?

காத்திருந்தேன் பல கனவு கண்டேன்

வழிப் பார்த்திருந்தேன் நானும் ரொம்ப நாளா

வாசற்படி தேடி வந்தான் என் ராசா

வாழ ஒரு வாக்கு தந்தான் என் ராசா

சொல்லாத ஆச ஒண்ணு உள்ளுக்குள்ளே பூட்டி வச்சேன்

கல்யாண மால ரெண்டு இப்பொழுது கட்டி வச்சேன்

ஒண்ணோடொன்னு சேத்து வைக்கும் கன்னிப் பூஜத்தான்

ஈடேறத்தான் வேணுமம்மா எங்க ஆசைதான்

I waited and dreamed many dreams,

I have been watching the path for a very long time.

My king came seeking my doorstep,

My king gave me his word to live together.

I locked away an unspoken desire deep inside my heart,

Now I have tied two wedding garlands ready.

It is the maiden's prayer that unites us together,

O Goddess, our desire must be fulfilled.

தந்தன நன்னா தன்னா தானனா

I lived my life spiritually united with him,

I was merged with him inside this heart.

I lived alone like a solitary tree,

He sought me out to be my companion.

Love knows no distinction, imagination has no fence,

My handsome beloved man should come,

And tie the sacred wedding thread around me.

Only through your grace, Mother, can we be united,

We shall live happily together,

For Goddess Mother to see and bless.
