அன்பினில் யாவரும் சேர்ந்திருந்தோம்

ஆடியும் பாடியும் வாழ்ந்திருந்தோம்

ஆயிரம் எண்ணங்கள் வளர்த்திருந்தோம்

ஆயினும் பிரிந்தே ஓடுகின்றோம்

We all remained united together in pure love.

We lived happily, dancing and singing together.

We nurtured thousands of hopes and thoughts in our hearts.

Yet, we now run apart, separated from each other.

பேதைகளாய் ஞானமின்றி இங்கு வந்தென்ன

மேதைகளாய் ஞானிகளாய் இன்று செல்வதென்ன

நாளைய உலகம் நம் வசமே

நல்லதும் தீயதும் நம்மிடமே

ஏழைகளும் இனி செல்வர்களே

ஏறுவதெல்லாம் இறக்கமில்லை

What was the purpose of arriving here as simple fools without wisdom?

What is the point of grieving today after becoming intellectuals and sages?

Tomorrow's world is within our grasp.

Both the good and the bad lie within us.

Even the impoverished shall become wealthy hereafter.

Yet, everything that rises lacks mercy and compassion.

ஆசையிலோ காதலிலோ நூறில் ஒன்றிரண்டு

அண்ணன் என தங்கை என நாமும் வாழ்ந்ததுண்டு

கம்பனைப் போல் ஒரு அண்ணன் உண்டு

கவிதையில் சொல்வார் மன்னர் என்று

எண்ணுகிறேன் அவன் முகத்தை இன்று

ஏங்குகிறேன் அவன் பிரிவு கண்டு

In worldly desires or romantic love, true bonds are barely one or two in a hundred.

Yet we lived together purely as brother and sister.

I have an elder brother who is as noble and poetic as Kamban.

In poetic verses, people refer to him as a king.

I envision his face in my thoughts today.

I yearn for him, agonized by our separation.
